What is Osseous Surgery?

Osseous surgery involves the removal of unhealthy or infected gum tissue and bone that has been affected by periodontal disease. The procedure works to cut away at infected tissue and reshape the bone to remove signs of the disease. After the procedure is done, sutures are placed to keep the new gum tissue in place next to the tooth in order to heal.

Who is a good candidate for Osseous Surgery?

Before having osseous surgery performed, an exam and series of x-rays will be taken to determine if you are a viable candidate for the procedure. If you are a healthy adult and will benefit greatly from the procedure, it will probably be recommended that you have it done. Some of the best candidates for osseous surgery include:
